Welcome to the Isle of Skye Astronomy website. We have put together these pages to encourage people to look upwards and view the splendors of the universe.
If you are a tourist on holiday or just visiting relatives/friends there should be something here to help you. If you live here and would like to get together on a regular basis during the winter months for observing or general astronomy chat contact me on the Contact Us link.
Summer Months (mid April to middle of September)
Due to our Northerly latitude viewing through telescopes at night is usually not possible as the sky is too light except for a few hours around 1am.
Here at The Tables Hotel we can show you the Sun during the day, clear skies permitting with our Meade 10" GPS SCT Telescope and Solar Grade Viewing Filter.
*** Warning, never look directly at the sun unless using the correct equipment. ***
*** Permanent blindness can result. ***
Winter Months (Middle of September to mid April)
With darkening nights a large variety of objects are available to look at in detail through a telescope including the Planets, Stars, Galaxies, Comets & Nebula. With the naked eye there are Meteorites (Shooting Stars), Fireballs, Meteor Showers, Satellites and on occasion the Aurora Borealis (Northern Lights).
Not sure what or where your looking at in the sky, click the Constellations button to help you.
